As a member of the Compliance Department, you will provide subject matter expertise and advice on Compliance & Financial Crime; including sanctions, and also provide expertise and advice on licensing.
Key Responsibilities:
Promote a culture of compliance by raising awareness of compliance and regulatory matters and ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations.
Provide advice and expertise for colleagues, including underwriting; claims; and finance on Licensing and Financial Crime matters (Sanctions, AML, ABC, Conflicts of Interest, Gifts & Entertainment, Fraud, Tax Evasion, POCA, Market Abuse).
Complete new licensing applications and renewals of licences across the globe, maintaining relationships with overseas regulators.
Annual review of the Financial Crime Manual and Conflicts of Interest Policy. Produce the half-yearly MLRO reports.
Perform an annual risk assessment of every division’s exposure to and control over financial crime, evaluating their controls and their understanding of the company-wide controls in place in respect of key financial crime areas, and ensuring the follow-up of any recommendations.
Develop and maintain a scoresheet and guidance document to assist executive management with approving customers or transactions deemed to be ‘high-risk’.
Annual review of the Whistleblowing Policy and production of twice-yearly whistleblowing reports.
Investigate all notified incidents of fraud and report them to Action Fraud
Carry out the quarterly Segregation of Duty reviews, and check for any segregation of duty issues on all new system access requests.
Perform the annual Conflicts of Interest attestation. Manage the Conflicts of Interest / Gifts & Entertainment registers.
Oversee the Compliance Monitoring Programme and identify and implement enhancements as necessary.
Provide management oversight of the Compliance Monitoring Analyst.
Central point of contact for ELTO and responsible for ensuring all ELTO requirements are met by the Company.
Provide input to all Know Your Customer (KYC) requests from third parties and produce a standard compliance KYC response document.
Ensure that contract certainty is understood and that controls to monitor contract certainty are embedded within the company.
Ensure that all financial crime training modules remain current and effective and provide training to staff as required. Circulate Compliance Hot Topic bulletins on financial crime issues.
Support the Compliance team on other matters where time allows such as horizon scanning; regulatory returns; regulatory relationships; business queries; compliance projects and other work of the Compliance team.
Skills and Experience Specification
Knowledge and experience of the application of UK, EU, USA and UN sanctions - ideally in the (re)insurance sector.
Demonstrate a high level of problem solving and the ability to resolve issues.
An instinct to be proactive, identifying improvements to the department’s ways of working, reporting and communications.
Demonstrate a risk-based methodology in work methods and reporting.
Ability to manage own workload and that of direct report, prioritising tasks appropriately and ensuring that agreed delivery dates are achieved.
Excellent interpersonal skills, able to communicate effectively at all levels of the business in a confident and professional manner.
Good written communication skills to allow the job holder to write and respond to emails and other written correspondence in a professional manner both internally and externally.
