Arthur is delighted to have partnered with a leading Lloyd's syndicate in helping them find a Head of Wordings. This is an exciting, newly created position, that will give you lots of exposure to the business and give you the opportunity to work closely with Underwriters. This role will suit someone that is happy in a market facing role and someone who is comfortable to work closely with Senior Underwriters & Senior Brokers. You will ideally have experience handling Property and a secondary skill set in a specialty line of business.
Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Head of Wordings to assume responsibility for Technical Policy Wordings construction, analysis and support.
You will be an important part of the underwriting business providing support across all lines - Property, Marine & Energy, Professional Lines & Casualty, Credit, Political Risks, Renewable Energy & Aviation.
You will have the opportunity to demonstrate your technical drafting skills and advisory services to the underwriters, their clients and brokers in order to provide a service differentiator.
The underwriters write $2bn of business across both Lloyd’s and Company market platforms.
In this role you will report to the Head of Underwriting Governance.
Key Responsibilities
Analysing – reviewing existing and new open market and coverholder wordings, including analysis and explanation of individual clauses right through to review and construction of complete policy wordings, always with a focus on delivering a timely and commercial solution to any issue raised
Creating & Innovating – working closely with key stakeholders internally and externally to refine or expand existing wordings and clauses. Help maintain & develop our leadership capabilities in chosen lines, supporting the strategic growth plans of the division
Teamwork – collaborating with colleagues across the Underwriting team and beyond (including Claims, Ceded Re and Compliance) in order to deliver on team goals, service delivery requirements and internal projects
Mentoring – sharing knowledge with the more junior members of the Underwriting teams.
Supporting underwriters in achieving underwriting discipline both through coverage analysis and offering robust and clear wording solutions and highlighting potential coverage exposure to emerging risks
Support Peer Review / referral and assist with the development of a consistent underwriting process across the Division, including management of up-to-date wordings minimum standards
Networking – attending market forums and liaising with peers to develop new and better wordings for our underwriters and customers.
