An exciting opportunity to join a highly regarded global insurer as a Senior Medical Malpractice Claims Handler. You will be responsible for managing a caseload of Medical Malpractice claims for their international portfolio. This will consist of managing clinical negligence cases via instructing panel solicitors and liaising with the insured and panel for optimal claims outcome. In addition, you’ll be expected to assist underwriting and risk with claims information, attending prospect and insured meetings and mentoring more junior members of staff within the claims team. This role reports directly to the Head of Claims to ensure that claims have appropriate oversight and are handled efficiently taking commercial, reputational, regulatory and other policy considerations into account. Responsibilities:
Promote and follow the companies Claims Management ethos as set out in the Claims Manual
Manage a portfolio of medical malpractice claims, notifications, and regulatory healthcare matters, in accordance with the companies Claims Manual and regulatory requirements
Proactively investigate and handle claims from first notice through resolution, including determination of coverage and analysis of liability, quantum and strategy
Ensure adequate reserving pursuant to the companies Reserving Philosophy
Negotiate settlement of claims in conjunction with appointed experts
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including underwriters, brokers, solicitors, TPAs to improve organisational performance and provide optimal service to our insured clients
Assist with panel and TPA management, including large loss claim review and audit
Assist with the training and development of other team members
Requirements:
Proven experience with Casualty claims across various jurisdictions (US, UK and Ireland beneficial)
Qualified to handle Irish claims (via ACII / FCII designation or other qualification recognised by CBI) or willingness to sit qualifying exams
Familiarity with London Market systems (e.g. ECF) and operating protocols
Understanding of the Common Law legal system
In-depth knowledge of general insurance principles and practices
Ability to interpret regulations and apply guidance when handling regulatory healthcare matters
Sound judgement and ability to analyse complex matters and technical information.
Experienced in stakeholder management
Excellent oral and written communication, analytical and organisational skills
Competence in MS Office applications, particularly Word and Excel
