The role
Reporting to the Finance Controller, the role will provide full ownership of the contractor payroll and the internal staff payroll. Currently the contract desk has 60 temps, but the business is looking to grow the temp book by 20% in the next 12 months.
The role encompasses both pay and bill administration, as well as compliance and margin reporting.
In depth knowledge and experience with payroll administration, including PAYE, Umbrella and Limited contractors is fundamental.
The position is cross functional, with a dotted line to our Compliance Function and the Sales Director, responsible for the Arthur’s contract business.
Being well articulated, kind communicator, both internally and externally is an essential part of the role.
 
Key responsibilities

  • Manage the entire payroll process for our contract book – PAYE, Limited, Umbrella, FTC, weekly and monthly [ Intime RSM]
  • Preparing and compiling the monthly internal staff payroll, with HR Director for review by the Finance Director and/ or Finance Controller
  • New starters, compliance and leavers administration – IR35, AWR, GDPR, and HMRC related matters
  • Timesheet managements and managed vendors
  • Manage and administer holiday pay, statutory payments where necessary.
  • Raise customer invoices and pay contractors on a timely manner.
  • Produce margin reports to senior members of the finance team.
  • Assist with temp revenue reconciliation for month end.
  • Set up contractor payroll payments by online banking.
  • Acting as a bridge between finance and the consultants’ sales desks to establish smooth collaboration and best service to consultants, customers and contractors.
  • Excellent communicator and team player
  • Intermediate excel knowledge is crucial for the role.
  • Immaculate attention to detail
  • Independent in the daily work and ability to prioritise effectively or ask for help when such is needed.
  • Act as main point of contact for payroll queries from employees and contractors
  • Preparation of, and where appropriate, submission, of P45s, P46s, P 60s and P11Ds
  • Pension administration for both internal and contractor payrolls
  • Provide necessary documentation and support to ensure compliance and accuracy during audits.
  • Assist management accounts with payroll reconciliations to ensure all payroll-related accounts are fully reconciled.
  • Collaborate and contribute with the wider business services functions and the finance team in projects to improve ways of working, achieve efficiencies and automation.

Skills, knowledge and experience

  • Excellent experience in managing contractor payroll, using a recognised payroll software.
  • In Time / RSM or online timesheet management and Pay & Bill experience is crucial
  • Previous experience in processing payroll for permanent employees
  • Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Detailed knowledge of UK payroll processing, tax/national insurance rules, Pension Regulation and auto Enrolment, AWR and RTI administration
  • Qualified payroll technician through the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) – this is nice to have but not essential.
