Senior Casualty Underwriter – Lloyd’s Syndicate Location: London (Hybrid, 2–3 days in office) Salary: Competitive
We are working exclusively with a rapidly scaling Lloyd’s Syndicate backed by a global carrier, seeking a Senior Casualty Underwriter to join their specialist Healthcare & Life Sciences division in London. This is a unique opportunity to help build out an evolving portfolio with true international reach, shaping client propositions and product development from the ground up.
The Opportunity Following the retirement of a long-standing casualty underwriter, there’s now a strategic hire being made to strengthen the Medical Malpractice and Casualty proposition, with a clear path toward growing open market, retail-led business in the UK and internationally. With a large book (55% wholesale/DUA via the syndicate), the team is now pivoting toward retail open market growth, focusing on packaged MedMal and Casualty offerings, with Property and Cyber being integrated.
You’ll play a key role in underwriting complex international risks (excluding the US), working closely with a diverse team of 9 underwriters across London and global offices, including Spain, Israel, Canada, and Singapore.
What You'll Do
Lead and underwrite a portfolio of casualty and medical malpractice business, with a focus on open market retail.
Work closely with Healthcare and Tech teams to create integrated product propositions (Property & Cyber to follow).
Act as a referral and SME point for international teams in Spain and other global offices.
Develop business from regional brokers, particularly as the UK footprint grows with regional hires.
Help shape and evolve product wordings, drawing on your technical strength in MedMal and Casualty.
Support the team’s transition from DUA to open market with a clear growth mandate and underwriting autonomy.
Who You Are
An experienced casualty underwriter with strong exposure to medical malpractice, life sciences, or healthcare liability.
Comfortable underwriting retail and international open market business (Israel, Canada, Cyprus, etc.).
Commercial, entrepreneurial, and collaborative – with a desire to contribute to a growing, flexible team.
Prior Lloyd’s/London market experience essential; experience with DUA and lead underwriting desirable.
Exposure to international business (Europe, Asia, MENA) and non-US focused portfolios preferred.
Why Join?
A rare chance to join a genuinely entrepreneurial team with backing from a global platform.
Work with a high-quality, cross-functional team led by respected leaders in the market
Enjoy flexible working (2–3 days in-office) with no rigid mandates – and a team culture built on trust and delivery.
