The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Financial Crime Analyst to join a growing compliance function within the insurance sector. This role offers exposure across a broad range of financial crime disciplines, including sanctions, anti-money laundering, fraud, bribery and corruption, and tax evasion prevention. Working as part of a collaborative Financial Crime team, you will support the day-to-day operation of financial crime controls, contribute to the enhancement of the wider compliance framework, and engage with internal and external stakeholders to help ensure regulatory obligations are met.

What you’ll do

  • Support sanctions and financial crime investigations by gathering information, conducting screening activities and preparing factual summaries for review.
  • Undertake financial crime checks, including sanctions screening, adverse media reviews and jurisdictional risk assessments, in line with established procedures.
  • Assist with financial crime risk assessments, monitoring activities and management information reporting.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of financial crime controls, policies and procedures.
  • Respond to internal financial crime queries, providing guidance and escalating higher-risk matters where appropriate.
  • Contribute to financial crime projects, regulatory reviews and compliance initiatives across the wider business.
  • Develop technical knowledge across sanctions, anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing, fraud, bribery and corruption, and tax evasion regulations.
  • Provide analytical and administrative support to senior compliance and financial crime professionals.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Compliance, Risk and Business functions to support cross-functional projects and regulatory initiatives.
  • Help promote a strong culture of compliance, financial crime awareness and risk management throughout the organisation.
Who we’re looking for

  • Previous experience or a strong interest in financial crime, compliance, risk or regulatory functions within financial services.
  • Understanding of financial crime risks including sanctions, anti-money laundering, fraud, bribery and corruption, or a willingness to develop expertise in these areas.
  • Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail and the ability to assess information effectively.
  • Ability to follow policies, procedures and regulatory guidance accurately and consistently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and concisely.
  • Collaborative and proactive approach with a willingness to learn and develop technical expertise.
  • Interest in developing a career within financial crime compliance and regulatory risk management.
  • Legal education or experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Knowledge of the insurance market, Lloyd's market or financial services sector would be beneficial.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Supporting a range of M&A and strategic transaction activities, you will work closely with legal and business stakeholders throughout the transaction lifecycle, from initial due diligence through to completion and post-deal support. Working within the second line of defence, you will provide expert guidance and challenge to the business, helping to manage sanctions risk, support regulatory compliance, and strengthen the wider Financial Crime Framework. The role offers significant exposure to underwriting, claims, operations and senior stakeholders, as well as opportunities to contribute to strategic projects and process improvements. Office:  Hybrid working model with three days per week in the office and two days working remotely. Salary:  Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package. What you’ll do Review and assess sanctions referrals across underwriting, claims and operational functions, providing clear, risk-based guidance and recommendations. Strong understanding of UK, EU and US sanctions regimes and their practical application within a regulated business environment. Experience reviewing sanctions referrals and applying risk-based decision-making and regulatory judgement. Knowledge of broader financial crime disciplines, including anti-money laundering, anti-bribery and corruption, fraud and related regulatory requirements. Experience using sanctions screening systems and related compliance technologies. Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes to deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with excellent attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex regulatory issues clearly and effectively.
