Syndicate Financial Controller

A market leading specialty underwriter are in the market for a Syndicate Financial Controller to join them in a newly created position as the syndicate finance lead. You will bring in-depth technical knowledge of Lloyd's regulatory returns to ensure accurate, timely and robust reporting and controls and will be an influential member of senior finance team.

  • Take full accountability for the Syndicate’s financial control framework, overseeing the end-to-end production of financial statements, ensuring high standards of accuracy, governance and compliance with applicable accounting and regulatory standards.
  • Own the Syndicate’s financial and regulatory reporting agenda, working closely with internal and external stakeholders to meet Lloyd’s, Group and BMA requirements and maintaining a strong, effective control environment. This include compliance with SOX.
  • Act as a trusted financial adviser to senior leadership, using financial analysis, performance trends and technical accounting expertise to provide meaningful insights, challenge assumptions and support informed decisions.
  • Build strong relationships across the finance and wider business, partnering with auditors, actuaries, outsourced service providers and internal teams to ensure high-quality outputs, robust data and efficient, sustainable processes.
  • Lead the evolution of the finance function, embracing technology and new ways of working, contributing to transformation and systems initiatives, and continuously improving the efficiency, scalability and effectiveness of financial control

You must be;
  • Fully Qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
  • Extensive experience within Lloyd's financial reporting and accounting
  • Highly proficient in using finance systems and knowledge of data warehousing and reporting tools
  • Ability to confidently own and communicate complex financial information to key stakeholders both internally and externally
  • Possess strong problem-solving skills, proactive approach and solutions driven mindset.
  • Experience in presenting and liaising with C-Suit level personnel.

Salary on offer is up to £150k + excellent bonus and a market leading benefits package.

With a growing international portfolio and operations spanning multiple markets, the business is investing heavily in data, analytics, automation and AI to improve how specialty risk is understood and managed.  This is a fully remote role, with candidates considered in the UK or US  As a Senior Catastrophe Modelling Analyst, you will play an important role in understanding and optimising catastrophe risk across a diverse global portfolio, covering territories including the US, UK, Canada and Europe. The successful candidate will work closely with teams across Exposure Management, Underwriting and Reinsurance, as well as brokers, reinsurers, capital providers and other external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have 5–10 years’ experience in catastrophe modelling and exposure management, strong hands-on experience with Verisk/AIR Touchstone, and good technical skills across SQL, R/Python and GIS.

The successful candidate will support the enhancement and rollout of pricing models within the hx platform, helping to improve pricing sophistication, governance and underwriting decision-making. This is a highly visible role offering broad exposure and would suit an actuary who enjoys combining technical pricing with transformation delivery. Key Responsibilities Support the development, implementation and enhancement of pricing models across multiple classes of business. Assist with the ongoing rollout and optimisation of the hx pricing platform. Partner with underwriters to improve pricing methodologies and support risk selection decisions. Develop pricing analytics, portfolio monitoring and management information. Analyse portfolio performance and identify opportunities to improve profitability and pricing adequacy. Support portfolio optimisation, capital allocation and business planning initiatives. Collaborate with actuarial, underwriting, technology and data teams to deliver pricing transformation projects. Contribute to pricing governance, model validation and regulatory requirements. About You Experience in General Insurance pricing, ideally within the London Market. Strong technical skills, including Python and SQL. Experience with hx renew is advantageous. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
