Risk Manager - Insurance & Financial Risk

The Opportunity An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Risk Manager to join a growing Risk & Compliance function within a regulated UK general insurance business.
This role offers the chance to play a key part in the oversight of underwriting activities, broker relationships and financial risk management, while supporting the continued development and embedding of the organisation's risk management framework.
Working closely with senior risk leadership and partnering with Finance, Underwriting and other business stakeholders, you will provide independent challenge, contribute to risk reporting and governance activities, and support key regulatory processes including ORSA and stress testing.
This is a highly visible position combining quantitative analysis, stakeholder engagement and second-line risk oversight, providing excellent exposure across the business.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support the delivery and ongoing enhancement of the insurance and financial risk management framework.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of risk appetite statements, tolerances and limits aligned to business strategy.
  • Contribute to ORSA activities, including stress testing, scenario analysis and regulatory reporting.
  • Provide effective second-line oversight and challenge across key insurance and financial risks.
  • Facilitate and review risk assessments, including RCSA activities and validation of first-line controls.
  • Produce high-quality risk reporting for governance forums, risk committees and senior stakeholders.
  • Build strong relationships across Finance, Underwriting and wider business functions.
  • Support thematic reviews, deep dives and independent risk opinions.
  • Monitor and report risk profiles using established risk management systems and tools.
  • Review and recommend improvements to policies, standards, procedures and controls.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and internal risk management expectations.

  • Demonstrable experience within Risk Management, ideally gained within the insurance sector.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise risk management frameworks and methodologies.
  • Experience providing second-line oversight, assurance and challenge.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and risk assessment capabilities.
  • Experience producing concise and impactful risk reports for senior audiences.
  • Knowledge of the UK regulatory environment, particularly within financial services or insurance.
  • The ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and stakeholders.
Highly Desirable Experience
  • Experience within a UK General Insurance environment.
  • Exposure to ORSA, stress testing and scenario analysis.
  • Knowledge of Solvency UK and wider prudential regulatory requirements.
  • Understanding of underwriting, reserving and financial risks.
  • Familiarity with PRA and FCA regulatory expectations.
  • Experience supporting risk appetite frameworks and governance processes.
  • Exposure to capital management and insurance risk oversight activities.

Due to continued growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Finance Manager to lead the finance team. This is a varied role offering exposure to both transactional and month-end accounting responsibilities, including FCA submissions, along with financial planning, forecasting and business partnering activities. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of the finance function whilst supporting the wider business with financial insight and operational excellence. Responsibilities; Preparation of year-end statutory accounts and liaise with external auditors, including insurance and reinsurance audits. The production of monthly management accounts, including P&L reporting, variance analysis and ad hoc financial reporting. Financial analysis of investment opportunities (new product launch or acquisitions), managing asset and cost allocations. Reconcile bank accounts, investigate discrepancies and monitor cash balances. Process and reconcile insurance and reinsurance premiums, working closely with brokers, insurers and relevant tax authorities. Oversee the timely receipt, review and reconciliation of Bordereaux (BDX) and remittance data from Managing General Agents (MGAs), coverholders, brokers and delegated underwriting partners. Prepare journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring an accurate and timely month-end close. Support budgeting, forecasting and cash flow forecasting activities.
